Conclusion....

This blog was made for the purpose of an assessment for the Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Animal Management. The chosen species and ecosystem – (specific for mainly chapter 2 only) was used for the Clouded Leopard and the Borneo. These were assessed in reflection to what was needed for the assignment e.g. Population of species: Distribution of species and population, factors influencing the distribution and population dynamics (figures and decline of that particular species).

To conclude on the blog overall, I feel that I have been able to achieve all pass outcome with the aim to achieve merit and distinction. With the aims set in mind before the competition of the blog I put in place an independent plan to track on track with the assignment schedule of meeting the essential criteria’s.

I was able to carry this out by using a Gantt chart (see link below). This allowed me to set deadlines of each pass outcome including to ensure that at least the formative and summative dates were met accordingly.

The Gantt chart enabled me to list the specific tasks (pass outcomes) that needed to be completed which allows me to focus and have a clear understanding of what work is actually required to meet them. The structure of the Gantt charts prevented me from missing potential criteria and works similar to a diary. The effect allows you to see dates and time which was used upon completing each area and can be used differently in to what sections needed and had more time or less than others.

However, although the Gantt chart is an ideal way of structuring the criteria in preparation for an evaluation, the dates do not have to be followed and I found myself having problems half way through of slipping from the dates/weeks I chose to follow via my Gantt chart.

This meant that not all task was completed on the week set and which is why I have justified to areas of the chart to follow: 1) what I want to follow to achieve tasks and 2) what and when I actually completed them. – This is all easily shown on the Gantt chart via the key method.

Problems that occurred during the creation of this blog was that other assignments had priority over this, mainly due to deadline dates being before this. This was not a chosen thought and meant that towards the end I feel I slipped in regards to expanding slightly in detail, however I did ensure that criteria were still covered.

During the beginning and middle of January there began problems with the blog created itself and Moodle – this became an instant problem with having to use them sources in order for the blog to be fully completed. However, I still was able to finish the work but this did force me off track a little bit.

The learning program which we use was under maintenance and was not able to be accessed for a good few days due to maintenance, this meant that other possible learning sources were not reached. In order to overcome the problems that occurred I ensured that I used varied sources other than relying on the internet e.g. Journals, books and articles.

Although the website was difficult to start with I personally feel I was able to give the overall presentation and feel towards the website, at a good standard ensuring that it was eye catching and intriguing. I believe that during this assessment I was able to create and demonstrate new skills that I feel I have gained by using other learning theories (blogs/website materials) that I do not usually use. This means that I will be able to use these for further development when undertaking other modules and I will be able to use then newly formed skills in other assignments in the future.
