MACRONUTRIENTS
Macronutrients are forms of several nutrients that the body requires in relatively large quantities such as carbohydrates, protein lipids and also water (Dolson, 2014).
They are made up of complex chemical compounds, which are later oxidised during the digestion process into simpler soluable solutions, which can then be absorbed into the blood stream and involved with the process of metabolism.
Complex compounds are difficult to digest and therefore requires the breakdown within the digestion process, this is why they are made into soluable solutions which allow the breakdown to be easier and aid for absorption (Macronutrients, 2015).
The essential macronutrients include the following;
-
Carbohydrates
-
Protein
-
Lipids
-
Water
